Discover How To Find Paid Online Surveys | Online Business Article ...

?

Legitimate work at home opportunities do exist, but you have to spend some time researching to find reputable companies. Paid online surveys offer you the opportunity to make money in the comfort of your own home. The problem is separating the good companies from the bad ones. The first thing to remember is that a reputable survey company won?t charge you before signing up with them. A quick search on the Internet for survey companies reveal a lot of companies that want you to pay a fee to receive a list of survey companies. Find a good company by researching online. You?ll find survey review sites that can help you develop a good list of companies to sign up with.

There are other work from home opportunities to give you some extra spending money. Mystery shopping is a good way to make extra money. You?re paid to shop and report on your shopping experience. You might be assigned to check movie trailers or visit apartment communities. The first step in finding mystery shopping opportunities is by searching online. Look for companies that are members of national mystery shopping organizations. Some companies pay once per month and others pay every week. It takes just minutes to sign up for a mystery shopping company. Once your approved, you will be able to see the available jobs in your area. Large well-known companies use mystery shopping companies to improve their customer service or to check on employees. After a shopper visits the place of assignment, they are expected to write a report about their experience.

The report format is found on the mystery shopping company?s website and submitted online. The deadline for submitting the report ranges from four hours to 48 hours. You can view the companies guidelines when you sign up. Most companies will reimburse you for any required purchases. It?s a great way to work on your own schedule. Video mystery shopping is gaining in popularity. A video mystery shopper can purchase her own equipment or use the mystery shopping company?s equipment. Video mystery shoppers typically go to apartments and new homes and pretend to be a renter or buyer. Hidden camera equipment captures the shopping experience and gives the company valuable feedback about the sales skills of their employees. If you decide to purchase your own camera equipment, it cost approximately $400. It is recommended that you borrow the mystery shopping company?s equipment first to be sure you enjoy the work. If you enjoy the work, then you can purchase your own equipment.

Another job opportunity that you can pursue that allows you to work from home is general transcription. If you type fairly fast, and have good English and grammar skills, then general transcription could be the right job for you. Most companies pay their transcriptionist by the audio hour. An experienced transcriptionist can transcribe one hour of audio in about four hours. This is a good rule of thumb but some experienced transcriptionist are much faster. There are a lot of online general transcription companies that will hire beginners with no experience. However, the pay will be much lower until you can increase your speed. Accuracy is important and you should focus on learning how to transcribe correctly before trying to increase your speed. You can search for general transcription companies on the Internet.

NVIDIA confirms no 'Project Grey' until 2013, Tegra 3 LTE later this year

NVIDIA confirms no 'Project Grey' until 2013, Tegra 3 LTE later this yearWhile earnings calls are rarely the veritable dial-in party, sometimes they do toss up a juicy gambit or disappointing revelation. While NVIDIA was dishing out projections for Q1 2013, it pretty much quashed any hopes of seeing an in-house LTE Tegra chip in 2012. While we were assured that Tegra 3 LTE phones would come this year -- based on those partnerships announced back in February -- it was also stated that the thoroughbred Tegra LTE chip wouldn't be a reality until 2013. So, this pretty much ties in with what we had heard, but this time, from the horse's mouth.

No Shortcuts, No Mercy: The Bloodsport Of Recruitment

bloodsportOne year ago I wrote an article called "Why The New Guy Can't Code," about how the industry-standard process for hiring software engineers is broken, shortsighted, and counterproductive. It remains my most-read TC post. Of course, I was far from the first to say so, and even farther from the last; every few weeks a similar rant bubbles onto the home page of Hacker News. And yet recruiting remains broken. When I wrote that post I imagined that in the subsequent year some sharp startup would come along and turn the game on its ear -- but no. A few have tried: Gitalytics, which tries to use Github data to identify good engineers; Gild, which acquired Coderloop last year and is still going strong; and especially StackOverflow Careers, which leverages the software world's most indispensable site to match employers and employees. But I think it's fair to say that all the contenders so far serve as adjuncts to the traditional recruiting process, rather than replacing it with something disruptively new. All of which adds up to today's very weird situation: there's a desperate talent shortage across the industry, but at the same time, employers are so terrified by the prospect of ever hiring a subpar engineer that the recruiting process has become increasingly gruelling and time-consuming, even though there's little evidence that the standard interview gauntlet identifies good engineers. Of late I'm getting more involved with recruiting myself. (My day job is at the software development shop HappyFunCorp; we're hiring.) And, pending the arrival of that hypothetical revolutionary recruiting startup, I have a modest proposal: stop worrying so much about hiring, and start putting your HR energies into firing.

Teal Panels Are Like Lego For Campers Who Hate Tents [Wish You Were Here]

As the story goes, Lawrence Drake wanted to go camping with a pop-up camper instead of a tent, but his ride could only tow 1,000 pounds. So to stick it to the 'camping-man' he invented a set of lightweight modular panels that can be assembled just like Lego to create various sized temporary dwellings. More »

(AP) ? The Phoenix Coyotes are on the brink of their first Western Conference finals thanks to their stingy goalie and the captain who traveled with the franchise from Winnipeg to the desert.

Captain Shane Doan scored in the first period, Mike Smith made 25 saves and the Coyotes beat the Nashville Predators 1-0 on Friday night to grab a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semifinal series. It was the first win in the month of May in the franchise's NHL history, and Phoenix can advance with a victory in Game 5 on Monday night in Arizona.

"To win like this is exciting because our goaltender's so good, and we know that we go as far as he takes us," Doan said. "He's been unbelievable in this and really solidifies how important he is and how good he is."

Now the Coyotes, owned by the NHL, are 3-1 for the second straight series heading back home with the chance to advance. Chicago won Game 5 to put off elimination for a game, but Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said his message will not change.

"It's going to be the same kind of game," Tippett said. "Very little space, very little advantages and you're going to have to compete hard and hopefully we can find a way to win a game."

The Predators played without forwards Alexander Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn for the second straight game, this time the decision by coach Barry Trotz to stick with the lineup that won 2-0 on Wednesday night. Trotz said he refuses to second-guess his decision, though lineup changes are likely.

"Plain and simple, we've got to win a hockey game," Trotz said. "That focus can't go any farther than that. Winning a hockey game, and it's going to have to be in Phoenix. I know when you're down in a series 3-0, the numbers don't look good. At 3-1, a number of teams have come back."

The Predators thought they tied it with 7:12 remaining. But officials waved off the power-play goal with the official explanation that a whistle blew before the puck crossed the line. Trotz said he didn't get an explanation with officials telling captain Shea Weber a different reason.

"They said that (Patric) Hornqvist pushed the goaltender into the net. If you look at it, I don't buy that," Trotz said.

The Predators wound up outshooting Phoenix 25-24, but they had chances with the net open they simply missed with Radulov and Kostitsyn on the sideline.

Smith, the low-budget replacement for Ilya Bryzgalov after the Russian left the desert for a big contract with Philadelphia, credited his teammates with pressuring the Predators into making some bad shots.

"We were so aggressive," Smith said. "We didn't give them much, kept them to the outside and when they did get opportunities we had stick on puck. We had guys lying down blocking shots. My D was tremendous tonight. They have been good all playoffs long, but this is one of the better games they've played in front of me."

Radulov leads Nashville with a team-high six points in the postseason, and Kostitsyn is tied for the team lead with three goals. Fans cheered the announcement that the two were scratched after they were suspended for Game 3 for an apparent curfew violation last weekend in Arizona.

Nashville had plenty of chances, outshooting Phoenix 10-5 in the third. The Predators even got a power play at 11:34 when Coyotes defenseman Derek Morris cleared the puck over the glass and went to the box. The Predators had a scrum in front of the net after Mike Fisher threw the puck at the net, but the official behind the net immediately waved no goal.

Phoenix improved to 4-1 on the road in the postseason, spoiling what had been a big party in Nashville with three blocks of Broadway shut down right in front of the arena. The Predators put two big TVs outside for fans to cheer but didn't give them much to yell about.

The Coyotes outskated and outshot Nashville from the start, coming with much more energy. They even got a power play 90 seconds in only to see the Predators kill that. Then Ryan Suter had a turnover near the net, and Coyotes left wing Mikkel Boedker had a chance on Pekka Rinne right in front before the 6-foot-5 Finn blocked it with his right pad.

Fans did their best to try and spark the Predators with their usual standing ovation through a timeout in the first period to a catfish tossed onto the ice early in the third. Nothing helped the Predators' aim getting past Smith into the net.

"Their goalie was phenomenal tonight," Nashville defenseman Ryan Suter said. "It was definitely the toughest game to get anything going."

Nashville went 0 for 3 with the man advantage. The first came when Rostislav Klesla was penalized for boarding Predators forward Matt Halischuk right in front of the Coyotes' bench. Replay showed Klesla appeared to grab Halischuk's jersey before pushing him into the boards, and Halischuk went to the locker room briefly. But the Coyotes, perfect in killing penalties on the road this postseason, did it again.

Doan scored on a backhander as he skated across the slot with the puck going off the stick of Predators defenseman Roman Josi and over Rinne's right pad at 14:25 of the first.

The Predators came out with more energy in the second but struggled to get a shot on net. Hornqvist had Nashville's best chance around the 6-minute mark when Smith came just out of the crease to handle the puck, and Hornqvist missed the net. The Predators struggled so much they couldn't even go on a 2-on-1 chance before being called for offsides later in the second.

With Smith in net, Doan's goal proved to be enough with the way the Coyotes played in front of him. They blocked 10 of Nashville's first 15 shots, and Smith either covered up or gloved the others.

Notes: The Winnipeg/Phoenix franchise's last previous May game was May 20, 1979, when the Winnipeg Jets beat Edmonton 4-2 to win their third WHA title. The game was the last in WHA history. ... The Coyotes are 16 of 16 on the penalty kill on the road this postseason. ... The Predators are 0 for 23 on the power play at home.

7 Days of Sex Day 5: Her Last Chance

Day 5 and it is my turn again. Well, it is supposed to be his turn, but he has a late night of work and so we are flip flopping days. Um, did I mention I am tired? Lol, keeping up with my toddler, work, housework, teenager, and the stress of my blood pressure is too much. The good new is my hubby?s grandfather is home from the hospital. They are keeping a close eye on him though. I have a plan for tonight though; dinner out, coffee and walking at the mall, then I will give hubby a massage to get things going. Seriously, the massage is effort on my part. I hate giving them, I know it is selfish, but it hurts my hands and is exhausting. But it has been a long week and I know hubby?s back is killing him. So we wait for the teenager to get off the bus and head out to Chilis for dinner. Yum. Hubby and I spilt the dinner for two and he gets my margarita. Lucky duck. We head over to the mall for some coffee and a walk. Hubby goes on the carousel with our son and we [...]

New rage keeps Somali boys off street: video games

(AP) ? Inside a hot, cramped room in the Somali capital, 10 sweating children sat on wooden desks, not unlike those found in schools. These boys, though, were not in class. They were staring at a small TV and tightly gripping video-game controllers.

Video games are the new rage in Somalia, a first-world entertainment option for teenage boys that wasn't permitted when ultraconservative al-Shabab militants controlled the capital. The insurgents ? who were pushed out of Mogadishu last year by African Union and Somali troops ? banned recreational pleasures like movies and Nintendo.

With the militants gone, Somali teens and boys are bingeing on entertainment systems like Sony's PlayStation, a development with both positive and negative aspects.

Some parents say the video games are helping to keep teens off the street, which in turn lowers the chances they might be recruited by al-Shabab. But many teens admit to skipping class to practice their gaming skills.

"I spend half of my day here. The video games are fascinating," said Abdirizak Muse, a 16-year-old who dropped out of his Mogadishu school in early 2011 after al-Shabab militants dug trenches around it.

Among the positive changes in Mogadishu since al-Shabab's ouster are new restaurants, a vibrant beach front, the reopening of the national theater and video-game parlors.

Mohamed Deq Abdullahi, a father of two teens, watched his boys play a soccer video game in a sweltering parlor on a recent sunny day. He sees the boys' new hobby as a beneficial development.

"This is his daylong activity because I don't want him get bored and go to war," Abdullahi said. "The busier they stay the more tired they get and the more they ignore violence."

During the Islamist uprising in 2006 that gave way to the al-Shabab militia, schools were prime recruitment sources for militants seeking to bolster their ranks. Hundreds, likely thousands, of children were lured into combat.

While video-game shops where teens can pay a fee to play by the hour are popular, the minority of more affluent Somalis are buying game systems for home. Muse Haji, a father of six, bought a system for his kids.

"For us it's a choice between the lesser evil and the bigger evil," he said. "Instead of my children going out and being radicalized and used as human bombs, it's better for me that they stay at homes and play games.

"We focus on nonviolent games such as car racing, soccer and some educational games," he added.

Haji said that like all children of this generation, his children are fanatics about technology, a positive change from generations past when kids were more interested in firing weapons and joining war.

At a video game shop in the Wardhigley district of Mogadishu, dozens of kids waited in line earlier this week to get a chance to play. The shop charges the equivalent of 10 cents for 15 minutes of play. The atmosphere is eerily quiet except for the beeping, whooshing and cheering emanating from the games.

"I have been here almost an hour to wait for my turn. I will play a game of soccer with my friend again," Shafici Osman, 14, said with an air of desperation as he watched his friends play. "I like coming here every day. I am either playing or watching others play. I am happy because my parents approve, and they give me money to play."

The sudden popularity of video games has created a strong business opportunity. Arcade owner Ahmed Aden said he has watched his business quickly grow since opening seven months ago.

"We started with two screens and now we have eight. Our business is booming," he said.

A 2011 U.N. report said that children were being systematically recruited by militants across central and southern Somalia. Schools ? both teachers and students ? were consistent targets by recruiters, the report said.

The report said some 50 schools suspended operations in south-central Somalia because of growing demands from militia groups as schools were destroyed and damaged during clashes between insurgents and government and African Union troops.

Ali Abdi, a 15-year-old, said he was trained to fight with al-Shabab, but after returning home for a visit his mother wouldn't let him return to the militia. Abdi's brother opened an arcade, where Abdi now happily spends his time. He plans to return to school when militants no longer recruit from classrooms.

"Many of my friends are unlucky and have taken part in the violence in the country. Some of them have died. Others are carrying guns around. In some ways, video games have saved my life," Abdi said.

Obesity and Diabetes ? Integrated Medical Fitness

obesity and diabetes Obesity and DiabetesIt?s no secret that our country has an epidemic on its hands, which is not only affecting our population?s personal health but our countries economy as well. Despite that in less than forty years, in our country alone, obesity has increased by over fifty percent! This would mean that every two in three adults or considered overweight and not only that but its spreading just as fast to our children. We often see obesity as a vanity issue and although most people know that health concerns come along with it the nature of the problem is far more in depth than is apparent.

Other health complications that it can lead to are Diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, arthritis, depression, fatty liver disease, erectile dysfunction, and kidney stones. All of which can be detrimental to our health and in some cases even fatal. According to the Center for Disease Control being overweight and physical inactivity is currently the second leading cause of preventable death in this country and by 2014 will surpass smoking as the leading cause of preventable death.? In total being obese and overweight account for nearly one in every ten American deaths and economically costs us $223 billion a year. According to a report by health insurer UnitedHealth Group Inc. Diabetes and Prediabetes alone cost our country $194 billion dollars in 2011.

These facts and statistics are alarming, but the key to combating this issue is to try to find a solution that effectively works. Nutrition is something that is typically addressed for obesity and diabetes; however the missing link that is often overlooked is exercise. Sure we all know that exercise helps and is beneficial, but what kind of exercise? How long do we do it for? What should we focus on- weights, cardio machines, walking, yoga? The list is endless and a doctor simply telling you that you need to exercise leads to a series of questions such as these. Even if the doctor gives you a detailed program what is the likelihood that you will follow that program and have the ability to do it safely and effectively? ?As a medical exercise specialist I see Obese and diabetic clients quite often and even with the proper guidance from their medical professional they need the help from a fitness professional because it is a specialty. A doctor specializes in medicine just as we specialize in fitness and in my specific case as well as my staff member?s we specialize in medical exercise.

The most effective way to combat obesity and diabetes is through a structured program that includes a combination of cardiovascular and strength training. Results of previous studies have proven that with structured and supervised exercise programs which included resistance and aerobic training was associated with lower blood glucose levels (A1c levels- a marker of glucose control). One study in particular which was done by Dr. Daniel Umpierre of the Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Algre in Brazil, found that a structured exercise program when compared with just simply exercise advice showed a greater level of decline in blood glucose (A1c) levels. ?Overall, according to this study the combination of resistance and cardiovascular training given in the form of prescribed supervised exercise resulted in a greater reduction in blood glucose levels.

With a Medical Exercise Specialist making sure that your levels (blood pressure, glucose) are in safe ranges both high and low, a workout based on medical science and molded towards your specific needs will be given to you each and every time you participate in a session. From personal experience I also find that most clients that walk through our door rarely come in with just one issue such as diabetes or obesity, but rather a multitude of issues, this is often due to a sedentary lifestyle and just simple wear and tear on the body which causes musculoskeletal injuries or conditions. As Medical Exercise Specialists we are trained on how to manage these conditions so that you can safely and effectively participate in an exercise program. Overall, understand that fitness is one of the most important modalities in effectively dealing with most medical conditions including diabetes and obesity. You should not leave it up to yourself, but rather seek out a professional in the field who is qualified and understands medical exercise, such as an MES (Medical Exercise Specialist). If you had trouble with your car you would bring it to a mechanic, a problem with your toilet you would call a plumber, an issue with your skin- a dermatologist. Exercise is no different in that you should seek out a fitness professional who is capable of handling your medical issues through what we do best-exercise. Remember that if you are experiencing any conditions that your medical provider advises exercise for we are here for that purpose. We will not only provide a supervised structured exercise program that is proven by science to work, but will work with your medical provider to help best manage your condition and be your partner in your journey to recovery. I wish you luck and hope to see you soon.

Northern California fishermen free entangled whale

(AP) ? Crab fisherman Mark Anello noticed something odd near his boat off the Northern California coast: three buoys floating nearby were moving. Motoring closer he saw a gray whale tangled in a large fishing line.

It was the same whale, officials determined later, that was first spotted hundreds of miles south off the Orange County coast April 17, dragging several buoys attached to a net.

At that time, rescuers attempted to free the marine mammal, but it disappeared. It was spotted about a week later still entangled off the coast of Monterey County.

On Thursday, Anello was out on his 48-foot wooden crab boat about 3? miles off the coast of Sonoma County near Bodega Bay, located about 67 miles north of San Francisco.

As Anello, a fourth-generation fisherman, and two others on his boat the Point Ommaney moved closer, they found the orange and white buoys connected to the whale that measured close to the length of his vessel, said Tony Anello, Mark's father.

"They come up slowly alongside the whale, and the whale started fighting at first," the elder Anello said. "Then the whale decided to calm down."

Using 12-foot, bamboo poles with hooks on the end, Mark Anello and his crew spent 90 minutes freeing the 40-ton mammal, which had been nicknamed "June" by rescuers who had earlier tried to free it.

Once the creature was free from the ropes, nets and buoys it took a lap around the vessel.

"The whale circled the boat, surfaced and took off," Tony Anello said. "It was like it was saying thank you."

Monica DeAngelis, the federal marine mammal biologist who led earlier rescue attempts, says the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration maintains a network of volunteer disentanglement teams trained to rescue animals in distress.

She said the captain and the crew that rescued June were not part of the network, and that in general she would advise anyone who encounters a tangled whale to report the animal's location and stay with it but wait for trained rescuers to arrive, not least because such a massive animal can be dangerous.

"They're actually quite fortunate that they did not get injured," DeAngelis said. Still, she called Anello a "steward of the sea."

"I'm not going to rain on their parade. They did something amazing, and they probably did save the life of this animal," she said.

Generally, tampering with whales qualifies as a federal offense under the Marine Mammal Protection Act. But DeAngelis said Anello and his crew were exempted under the law's "good Samaritan" clause.

Tony Anello echoed DeAngelis' fears, saying his son and crew could have been hurt by the large creature. But he also said while fishing gear was the cause of the whale's woe, many fishermen care deeply about the sea and a sustainable fishery.

"There are fishermen who care about the ocean," he said. "We are stewards of the ocean and want a sustainable fishery."

Electronic House hands out its Home of the Year awards, offers yet more excess and inspiration

Image

Just as it does each May, Electronic House magazine has selected a handful of integrated homes and home theaters that it's deemed to be the best of the best and awarded them Home of the Year awards in categories that range from $50k or less to $150k or more. The winner of the latter is pictured above -- a garage that's gone from storing farm equipment to a top-end 3D Runco SC-50 projector and equally high-end sound system (to say nothing of the change in decor). Other winners include a completely hands-free home that's also energy efficient (at a cost of $48k), another home that's largely iPad-controlled, and a blood red nightclub-inspired home theater that's not too far removed from a David Lynch movie. Hit the source link below to take a tour of each.
